On Thursday November 12th, Billie Eilish took her fans on a quick trip to the mall, but it wasn’t for shopping. The official music video for the young artist’s newest release “Therefore I Am” embraces the concept of simplicity and casualness by showing her walking around and exploring a deserted shopping mall. The video follows Eilish through the shopping area, showing her singing the lyrics to the camera while running past the various stores and taking food from the empty kiosks.
Apart from a cut to black in the middle of the video while Eilish enters the elevator to transfer floors, the music video is a simple one-take shot with various camera movements, angles, and zooms to make the visual interesting and different. The video also includes sections where the music cuts out to show the young artist causing some mischief by hopping over counters and sitting atop tables throughout the mall. The music video then ends with the live audio of a security guard yelling at Eilish to “get out” of the deserted mall, followed by a clip of her running out the door and into the parking garage.
