For the First Time in His Life, Kanye West Voted in the United States Presidential Election for the Only Candidate He Trusted - Himself.

Who would have thought that a rap song written in the shower of Kris Jenner’s home would be the beginning of an entire presidential campaign? This, according to rapper Kanye West, was the moment he had the idea to run for President of the United States in the 2020 election, and he has been committed to this idea for nearly five years. On August 30th, 2015, Kanye West took the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards and announced that he would run for the 2020 Presidential Election. Many people in the audience laughed and brushed it off as a joke, even trending the hashtag #KANYE2020 as a meme.

However, soon after we started to realize that he was serious about this feat. In multiple interviews and public appearances, West made his intentions very clear and constantly reaffirmed his announcement of running for election. With the many calls for political and social change, most Americans actually denounced Kanye West’s campaign for president, and encouraged voters not to vote for his party. Rightfully so; while Kanye West has proven his many musical talents in rap and performance, his experience in politics falls a little short of being qualified for being President of the United States.

With the voting window for the 2020 election coming to a close, it is clear that Kanye is not in the running to actually hold office. However, it is clear that he is committed to his campaign until the very end. While he has never voted in any previous election, the rapper made it a point to come out to the polls this year and place his ballot. He posted a picture on Instagram rocking his “I Voted” sticker, and captioned it “Today I voted for the first time in my life for the President of the United States, and it’s for someone I truly trust...me.” Kanye’s determination is certainly admirable, however this year’s election was simply not his year.

While Kanye West’s campaign added a touch of humor to this year’s election, we understand the seriousness and importance of getting out there and voting. Whether it was early by mail or in person on November 3rd, we hope everyone got out there to exercise their American right to vote!
