MWTM Workshop - AES New York 2018

The 2018 NYC AES convention was one to remember, not only for their 145th convention anniversary, but also for all the new releases in audio technology they showcased. For those who have not attended the event, the convention hosts two main attractions; the exhibitions and the panels. Within the showcase, brands worldwide show off their new products and releases to the public. Brands like Audio-Technica, Shure, Sennheiser, Luke Audio, Focusrite, L-Acoustics, Neumann, Genelec, Dolby, and much more let you try out and shop things like microphones and plugins that have or (in some cases) haven’t hit the market yet. If that’s not your thing, check out the panels they have going on each day. If you’re willing to learn, there are tons of panels and lectures from industry professionals happening in all categories in the audio field.

The Audio Engineering Society is the only professional organization devoted to audio technology. The international society is composed of over 15,590 audio engineers, creative artists, scientists and students, and the number is growing every year. They do many events, including the most recent one in New York City. They also have many educational resources for audio engineers on their website. (www.aes.org)

This year, the underlying theme of the event was microphones. With most of the exhibitions having something to do with the recording tech world, some of the major highlights were with the Roswell Colares, Luke Audio’s AL-Y56-AU Tube Condenser Microphone, and the Sanken Chromatic’s CU-31 and CU-32 Compact Condenser Mics. For three straight days the AES convention was pumping knowledge and new products to attendees from October 17-19, and only had the program on the 20th.

Overall, if you're in the audio field, AES is for you. Become a member today and further your expertise in music technology. The next event is coming up soon, so check out their events calendar and get your pass early.
