Yesterday, 37 out of 195 nominees won at the 61st Grammy Awards of 2019. With Alicia Keys as the host, and top performers from every genre, the night was filled with the biggest stars in music. Female artists were the main theme at the event last night, where their hard work and dedication in their careers earned them a Grammy, and made history.

Some of the top winners include Ariana Grande, Cardi B, Childish Gambino, Drake, Dua Lipa, H. E. R. , Kacey Musgraves, and Lady Gaga. Ariana Grande won her very first Grammy award for “Sweetener” — best pop vocals. Cardi B won best rap album for “Invasion of Privacy”. Childish Gambino, also known as the actor Donald Glover, won 4 Grammys for “This Is America”. Drake took home a Grammy for best rap song for “God’s Plan”. Best new artists went to Dua Lipa, H. E. R. took home two awards, including best R&B album. Musgraves won album of the year for “Golden Hour," and 3 other awards. Lastly, Lady Gaga won 3 Grammy’s, 2 including best pop duo performance and best song written for visual media for “Shallow” (also written and performed by Bradley Cooper).

LADY GAGA

Some of these artists also performed at the incredible event, including Lady Gaga’s outstanding rock performance of “Shallow”. Bradley Cooper sadly did not make an appearance on stage, however, Gaga took the spotlight both at the show, and on TV media. If you weren’t at the Grammy’s, you witnessed a rock-and-roll camera footage getting up close and personal to the lead actress of “A Star Is Born”. Aside from the overall aesthetic and killer sound, the video recording resembled something like a 90’s alternative punk music video, which Lady Gaga achieved in an outstanding way.

DRAKE

One of the best speeches of the night for new musicians had to have been the words spoken by Drake. After “God’s Plan” won for best rap song, Drake said:

“I want to take this opportunity while I’m up here to just talk to all the kids that are watching this that are aspiring to do music, all my peers, that make music from their heart. That do things pure and tell the truth. I want to let you know we’re playing in an opinion based sport. Not a factual based sport. So it’s not the NBA at the end of the year you’re holding a trophy cause you made the right decisions or won the games. This is a business where sometimes is up to a bunch of people that may not understand what a mix raced kid from Canada has to say, or a fly Spanish girl from New York, or anybody else. Or a brother from Houston, right there, my brother Travis.
But look, the point is, you’ve already won if you have people who are singing your songs word for word. If you’re a hero in your home town. If look, if there’s people who have regular jobs who are coming out in the rain, in the snow, spending their hard earned money to buy tickets to come to your shows, you don’t need this right here, you already won.“

Despite some people saying that this was an outright diss to the Grammy’s, he was just stating his opinion. Fact is his speech was cut short, possibly for time or something else, but we got the point.

BRANDI CARLILE

In a less intense approach Brandi Carlile performed “The Joke”. Her song had less choreography and stage presence than the rest of the shows of the evening, but was hands down more realistic. Her concept paid off as her set was designed with a visual background displaying her lyrics while she sang.

And the joke’s on them

Unfortunately she did not will a Grammy, but she did get send her powerful message.

ALICIA KEYS

Even though you’re the host of the award ceremony, doesn’t mean you can’t perform! Alicia Keys took the spotlight playing two grand pianos side by side and singing her songs, and some covers. Some of these songs include J. Cole’s “Unforgettable," and Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up”.

JANELLE MONAE

Last year we did a story on “Dirty Computer," but last night was something to remember. Notably her performance had many people on the edge of their seats, probably due to the amount of choreography her and her dancers performed. “Make Me Feel” was one of the more interesting pieces of the night; as sexy stormtrooper dancers backed her up during the set.

CARDI B

While she took home a Grammy and made history, her performance of “Money” was out of this world. With incredible Cardi fashion, and a ton of backup dancers moving around the stage, she captured the audience at last night’s award show.

DIANA ROSS

Diana Ross, who turns 75 in March, celebrated her birthday during her performance of “The Best Years of My Life," and “Reach Out and Touch”. Even though this was a little unconventional in the way she performed, we also have to remember that she’s been a star a whole lot longer than most of the performers (not including Smokey Robinson). So in a way, she can do whatever she wants, most of the crowd remembered her lyrics and sang along.

Other performances included a Dolly Parton tribute, Camila Cabello, H. E. R. , Travis Scott, an Aretha Franklin Tribute, St. Vincent and Dua Lipa, Jennifer Lopez, Chloe and Halle, Dan and Shay, Shawn Mendes and Miley Cyrus, Kacey Musgraves, and Post Malone and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
