Recent Events in the #FreeBritney Movement: Britney Spears’ Father Steps Down As Conservator and Artist Shares Posts Championing Body Positivity

So much has happened since we last talked about Britney Spears’ conservatorship and the media joining her in her fight for freedom. Firstly, a judge ruled that Britney was allowed to select her own lawyer in the fight over her conservatorship, granting her more freedom to choose in how the case was to be handled. The pop star chose Mathew Rosengart, a former federal prosecutor and well-known Hollywood lawyer to fight for her side.

However, the progress did not end there. Last week, the pop singer’s father, Jamie Spears, finally agreed to step down from his position as her conservator. The document saying as such was filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, weeks after Spears filed a petition asking for him to be removed from his position and that he be charged for abuse after thirteen years of controlling her finances and personal choices.

As Jamie Spears’ lawyer, Vivian Thoreen, stated in the document, “[Spears] does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests.” Unfortunately, the document does not state a specific date for when Spears will step down from the position, but rather “when the time is right” he will be willing to do as such.

Britney’s lawyer responded to this event by expressing his content, while also stating that they are “disappointed” to see the continued attacks towards Britney and her team. Rosengart continued, “We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears, and others, over the past 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter's estate, and I look forward to taking Mr. Spears's sworn deposition in the near future."

The #FreeBritney movement is also pleased with the outcome of events, relishing in the accomplishments of the media and of Britney Spears in regards to the legal battle. In an Instagram post on Monday, August 16th, Britney Spears posted photos of herself showing skin with a lengthy caption discussing her previous insecurities over showing her skin on stage. The singer championed body positivity and awareness by stating, “I am a woman ….a beautiful… sensitive woman who needs to look at myself in my purest form!”

Anyone reading between the lines can understand that there was more to the story than Spears showed, alluding once again to the emotionally abusive nature of her conservatorship in saying that seeing her previous photoshoots shows evidence of “pain…hurt… ears…and heavy burdens”. The singer then gave another nod to her supporters and thanked them for fighting for her freedom, saying that the movement has more meaning to her than anyone can ever imagine.

We are happy to see that Britney has made progress in her fight against her conservators. However, the movement #FreeBritney is still not over, and we are certain that her supporters will continue to stand behind her until Britney Spears can finally break ties with those that held her back.
