BTS’ Newest Single “Butter” Is the Summer 2021 Jam That You Need On Your Playlist, And More From The Band This Season

Just as the opening line of the song states, BTS’ new single is “smooth like butter” in more ways than one. May 21st was a day for multiple new music releases, however it was hard to ignore the release of BTS’ second fully English-language single. Following the success of their first English song “Dynamite” -which topped charts since its release in August 2020- “Butter” is undoubtedly going to be the song at the top of your playlists this summer. With its upbeat rhythm and funky bass lines (that are somewhat reminiscent of Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust”), coupled with BTS’ flawless dance moves and saturated visuals, the band has got their fanbase, the ARMY, sweating from excitement.

The release of the song and its official music video was preceded by a livestream featuring all seven members talking about the song and being their fun-loving selves. However, the main event came at exactly 12am EST and 1pm KST when the music video was officially released. Starting with a simple black and white scene from which the teaser was taken, the video begins with members Jungkook and V singing their parts of the verse and dancing around showing off their suits and good looks. The video transitions into color as the chorus hits, showcasing the group’s bright outfits and the smooth choreography that they performed in perfect synchronization.

Overall, the music video was just as exciting and extravagant as fans expected, and the members of BTS definitely stole some of ARMY’s hearts away with their visuals. The “Butter” official music video has already broken two YouTube records with the most views in 24 hours. BTS had already held this record previously with “Dynamite”, but with 108.2 million views with the first day of “Butter’s” release, the band continues raising the bar. The premiere also beat “Dynamite’s” record of biggest music video premiere, with 3.9 million views at the peak of its viewers.

The song “Butter” itself has already racked up over 36 million streams on Spotify within its first 72 hours since release, and that number is surely going to continue to rise as the summer season approaches. BTS themselves have full confidence in this being their song of the summer, and we can definitely see that being possible. With a successful debut performance of the song at this past weekend’s BBMA’s, “Butter” is sure to be another gateway song for new ARMY’s to join the fandom, which only means more streams to take the single to the top.

The release of this new single is definitely not the last we will see of the K-Pop sensation group this season. With the recent announcement of their two day live streamed event “BTS 2021 Muster SOWOOZOO” and the upcoming eighth anniversary since the band’s debut, we are sure to see more from BTS in the coming months.
